LED lights are the buzz word of the moment!

The new technology that everyone wants.  So why is this?

Advantages of LED lights over bulbs:

• Possible energy saving of up to 90% compared to bulbs

• Longer life span with up to 50,000 hours of burn time

• More robust and can resist greater numbers of on and off switching

• Virtually unbreakable when dropped

• No UV radiation

• No toxic substances such as mercury (as in fluorescent lights)

• Completely recyclable (waste reduction)

As LED lights have a longer life span the initial higher purchase costs are recovered within a year or so depending on how often the lamp is used.  That’s why long term LEDs can work out cheaper than bulbs as well as being more robust than bulbs especially in tough environments. LED lights are more energy efficient because  LEDs lose about 87% to 90% of input power as heat whereas incandescent bulbs dissipate about 98% of input power as heat (LED figures according to study by the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEEE) which compared the heat dissipation and thermal degradation efficacy between T5 and LED bulbs in 2009).  It may not seem much but in reality it can make a big difference to the working environment and efficiency of the light because the hotter the light gets the less efficient it is.

LED Headlights & LED Floodlights

LED lights are Samalite’s biggest seller because they are maintenance free, as well as being efficient and cost effective.  LED Floodlights are popular because it’s simple to upgrade to the LED Floodlight without changing the rest of the lamp or buying a new lamp. Upgrade your Samalite HD200 floodlight (with bulb)  by purchasing an LED Floodlight Upgrade.  If you have a Samalite head torch it is also possible to change the head to an LED Floodlight, spot or wide beam. Samalite still produces lights with bulbs as well as the LED lighting ranges due to demand. Aviators prefer to have zero electronics in their lamps to completely avoid any possibility of interference with radio or sensitive equipment they may be carrying.
